The Priesthood—a Sacred Gift

“They had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting;
therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation,
and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God."

Eternal Life - to Know Our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ

Seeking for personal revelation is a key.

“And when ye shall receive these things”—including what I have shared today—“I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
“And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know [with a surety] the truth of all things.”27

Continuing Revelation

Human judgment and logical thinking
will not be enough to get answers to
the questions that matter most in life.

We need the continuing blessing of communication with God.

Personal revelation ... does not come easily, nor does it come simply for the asking. The Lord gave this standard for the capacity to receive such witnesses from God. It is a guide for anyone seeking personal revelation, as we all must.
“Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distill upon thy soul as the dews from heaven ... The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion.”

Family

Family

     The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. … Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who’s on the Lord’s Side, Who?

Sharing Your Beliefs

     As I begin my second year of this blog, I bear my testimony that God lives and loves us.  His beloved son is Jesus the Christ, Jehovah of olden time, our Savior who saves us with his grace.  The Holy Ghost will guide all those earnestly striving to know and live truth.

     President Thomas S. Monson said, “This great cause in which we are engaged will continue to go forth, changing and blessing lives as it does so. No cause, no force in the entire world can stop the work of God. Despite what comes, this great cause will go forward. You recall the prophetic words of the Prophet Joseph Smith: ‘No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.’

     There is much that is difficult and challenging in the world today, my brothers and sisters, but there is also much that is good and uplifting. As we declare in our thirteenth article of faith, “If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” May we ever continue to do so.”

Only upon the Principles of Righteousness

     "In raising our family, we decided that our most important goal would be to help our children establish their own connection to heaven. We knew that ultimately they would need to depend on the Lord, not on us. Brigham Young said, “Were I to draw a distinction in all the duties that are required of the children of men, … I would place first and foremost the duty of seeking unto the Lord our God until we open the path of communication from heaven to earth—from God to our own souls."

     I wish I had had the wisdom of this man in my household as my children were growing-up!

John 3

Nicodemus Comes to Jesus

     As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  He who believeth on him is not condemned: but he who believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God, which was before preached by the mouth of the holy prophets; for they testified of Christ.  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil.  For every one who doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.  But he who loveth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest.  And he who obeyeth the truth, the works which he doeth they are of God.

Thankful for Mortality

     I am grateful for a Father who ceases not to be God.
I am grateful for His Son who gives us the atonement and the opportunity for Eternal happiness.
I am grateful for the Holy Ghost who acts as our guide while in mortality.
I am grateful for this opportunity, mortality, to work out my salvation, to prepare to meet God.

1 John 5:11-12

And this is the record

That God hath given to us eternal life

And this life is in his Son.

He that hath the Son hath life

And he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Amber Waves

The 4th of July means, and has meant, many things to me over the years.
I like the way Angie Yasuda expresses it through pictures, music, and words in her

Time is short

I read the following today, "Our time is so short that we need to be about God's business every day."  I like that.

You Never Have to be Alone

     I am thankful that we never need feel that we are alone, though at times we may feel like we are standing alone.  God knows us, cares about us, and is always with us.

Testimony of God

     In this fishbowl we call mortality, my heart has always believed in God.  God, the Eternal Father, knows us, loves us, and wants us to become like Him.  He loves us so much; he sent His only begotten Son to save us.  Through the atonement, we may re-enter the presence of God and share in eternal happiness!

I am a Child of God, And he has sent me here,
Has given me an earthly home With parents kind and dear.

Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday.

I am a Child of God,
And so my needs are great;
Help me to understand his words
Before it grows too late.

Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday.

I am a Child of God.
Rich blessings are in store;
If I but learn to do his will,
I’ll live with Him once more.

Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday.

I am a Child of God.
His promises are sure;
Celestial glory shall be mine
If I can but endure.

Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday.

I Thank Thee, God

     I thank thee for your marvelous plan, for freedom of choice, for a physical body, for this time in mortality, for the many miracles that have kept me living, and for the opportunity to grow.  I thank thee for a wonderful wife, a great family, and a beautiful country to live in.  I thank thee for scriptures, opportunities to pray, capacity to render service, and the blessings of work and employment.  I thank thee for wholesome recreation, for uplifting music, and for inspiring art, literature, and video.  I thank thee for the air I breathe, for the earth under my feet, for the water that preserves life, and for the warmth and light of the sun.  I especially thank thee for thy beloved son Jesus Christ who makes eternal happiness possible!

Endurance

One never knows when he will be at the end of his rope.  Knowing that all is never lost, and that hope springs eternal, one can faithfully expect, look for and accept assistance when it reveals itself from its hiding place.  We are divine creatures having a mortal experience.  God lives, Jesus is the Christ, and light disperses darkness.

Remember

     A while ago, I heard someone say that the word “remember” was the most important word in the English language.  I’ve pondered that thought often.  I have come to a realization that the attitude of remembering is indeed a very important concept.
     Miracles happen every day.  Life itself is a miracle.  However, I often become complacent and lose sight of these everyday wonders.  It is important to remember these tender mercies, and to be grateful for these experiences.
     I remember when I first started earnestly studying the Bible.  I had been doing so for about a year.  I had a question; I wanted to know if what I was reading was true and if there really was a Jesus Christ.  One evening I started reading Matthew again.  I paused when I came to Matthew 7:7.  Even though I had read this passage many times before, it affected me differently this evening.  I looked-up and said, “I gotch ya!  If what I’m reading is true, then you have to answer my question.”  I had one of the most sincere prayers of my life that night.  I totally hoped that what I was reading was true, and I expected a voice from Heaven to confirm my hope – a voice like the one in Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments.  I saw no bright light, and I heard no deep voice.  However, God did answer me – through other people.
     I now know that what I was reading that night is true.  I know that Jesus Christ is real, that he lives, and that he loves me.  I know that His love is so strong that he took upon himself my sins.  I know that I must remember Him always, so I can be more like Him.  Speaking of the Messiah, Isaiah said “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”  Jeremiah said “for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”   I have a testimony that God remembers us and wants us to remember Him.
